The longer I work on cars the more I appreciate my 1984 Gmc. I had to diagnose and repair a HSCAN 2 circuit on one of my 2019 F550s. Back to school, old man! The BCM is going to be the end for many a Saturn.

 

I've never understood if the programming just gets corrupted or if it's an actual electronics hardware issue that permanently scrambles the programming (including Passlock II).

Either way, it became cost primitive to address with L s and Ions once they were old enough. Every fourth harvest Moon, somebody would get lucky and find a mostly matching one at a junkyard, but that's not the point. Many otherwise fine Saturns went to the parts yard because of BCM failure.

I agree bcms killed tens of thousands if not more perfectly good Saturn vehicles otherwise.
