Default 2005 Vue Dome Lights Won’t Turn Off

Here’s the next issue with my new Vue- the map and dome lights will not turn off after the door is closed, either getting in or out. I discovered this when I noticed none of the interior lighting was working; I thought I had a few bad bulbs. Instead, I found someone removed the fuse “INT LMP” from the interior fuse box. Upon putting a new fuse in everything worked, but now will not turn off, regardless if the key in or out, motor running or not.

Do you have access to a capable code scanner that can read GM manufacturers codes?

Almost sounds like there is a main relay stuck closed.

So if the fuse is in, the lights will stay on 100% of the time? Including while driving?

I don’t, but I’m going to have to get one. I discovered this late yesterday and didn’t have time to try and figure this out. At one point I got into the Vue, turned on the ignition, the lights turned off for a second then came right back on. It seemed like they wanted to turn off, they flickered once or twice but would not turn off completely. Both the map lights and dome acted in unison, so it’s not the light fixtures themselves, it’s what controls them. I was thinking it might be a malfunctioning door switch.

Is there a separate dimmer switch for the instrument panel lights? If so, I'd pull it and check it for corrosion. In the good ole days, those switches controlled both the instrument pane and dome lights. I've never looked at a Vue, as they don't appeal to me at all, so I have no idea.

I think I have isolated the issue to the plunger switch on the side of the dashboard on the drivers side. I’ve ordered another switch, I will swap it in and report back.

Bingo! That was it- a $12 door light switch on the drivers side. I sourced it at Autozone.

Does anyone know if you can change the interval the dome light stays on when the door is closed?

On my 2004 Ion, that uses the same type of switch as your Vue, with the dome lamp switch in the 'DOOR' (center) position, the lights will stay on for 20 seconds after the door is closed unless the key is inserted and placed in the RUN position, at which time the lights will gradually dim to off.

Nice.

No message on the driver information center about a door being a jar? Rude.
