2003 Vue, 2.2, 5 speed manual, 105K miles. New rear shocks, front struts, CV joints, front strut arms.


I have a very loud rattle from under the right rear and can't figure it out. Exhaust is tight, rear coil spring is in place and tight, rear shocks are new and tight. Any suggestions?

 

could be a heat shield rattling around under there.

 

It doesn't take much looseness for the underside of the top rear mount (I call it a bump stop even though it is technically incorrect) to slap off the underside of the shock tower/mounting area. That said, mind the torque spec for the mounts!

You may have luck locating the sound by putting the car on a lift where you can try to manipulate the rear suspension to reproduce and trace the sound.

Could it possibly be wheel on underside of wheel well? The noise itself would be more of a thump but could certainly rattle anything attached to the hub...
