In the gears where it does not work, does the cruise light blink at all when you try to engage it or does just nothing happen?

 

Never had a cruise light. Even when I use the tech 2 to light up all the cluster lights, there is no cruise light. Just the light on the steering wheel and yes that is on and the tech 2 does show it on and off when switched.

 

Also to confirm it’s just 4th gear that works. And I did try at 80-85 in 5th and nothing. Somehow the computer is sending the final drive different I believe. What’s funny is that the speedometer works perfect.

Your 3.61 final is so much different than stock the pcm doesn’t understand the correlation between vehicle speed and rpm. 20 % is a big jump. I used to play with Geo Metros before I got into Saturns. They have four gear ratios 9% apart. 3.5, 3.9, 4.1 and 4.4. Two steps was huge! On my stick shift L series the speedo is driven off the rf tone ring. The automatic cars have a speed sensor in the tranny.

 

1800 rpm at 65 mph is lugging that 2.2. My 2.2 L runs 2700 at 65. The automatics run at 22-2300 but the converter unlocks with any sign of throttle. I bet your VUE gets better mileage in fourth than fifth. I would just use fourth and the cruise.

Is it a pcm tune that is needed or a bcm reflash?

 

I imagine that some kind of custom tune is needed since the car never came with that engine/ gear ratio combo. You might look into an Ion pcm swap because that combo has survived on the street. 19bones69 has that combo in an Ion. There are some companies that can custom tune Cavalier pcms to just about anything. I will have look one up when I get home. I bought a tone ring for an LSJ to run with my L computer.

 

Man that would be awesome. I don’t mind swapping some pins over but the vue has that 3 wire speed speed sensor, only other car that uses it is the Cadillac CTs.
