Default 02-03 trans fluid

My 03 3.0 vue has Asin af-33 trans. Same as my 08 equinox. I’m doing heads on equinox and do a trans drain/fill since it’s easy access. I got 5qt from drain which is a bit high. I’ve seen 3.5 qts to 4+ on most of the equinoxes I fix. Seems odd as few people ever change trans fluid. Fill port is hidden behind front motor mount. I figure no one here even has a 3.0 vue these days. Is 4qt common drain amount?

The L81 3.0 V6 in the early VUEs, along with the Aisin F33 trans, were used in the L series V6 offering in addition to being a configuration choice for the 02 to 03 VUEs.

So Andy can probably give you the best answer as he is the L series guru on the site.

All the L series use the 4t40 in the four cylinder cars and the 4t45 in the v6 cars. I am no help on the Aisin transmissions.

Apologies to all.

I misread some of the text in the Wikipedia entry for the VUE, which referenced the L81 V6 from the L series and also mentioned the AF 33 in the same sentence. I took that to mean the AF 33 was offered in the L series as well.

Nope.

Again, apologies.

The o-ring bore is about .750” but it necks down to about 3/8”. I have a funnel I use but it’s maybe 1/2-5/8” tip and never seals well. I pour in new fluid slowly but I always get a dribble. Might loose 1-2oz during fill. I hate to waste new fluid. I put in 4qts. As I think that is proper fill amount.

Found a few equinox videos. Guy said use t-4 or maxlife. Which is dumb. Just use t-4. Since t-4 costs same as maxlife. He kind of said it was a 4t40 trans so dex6 would work too. Which is wrong. It’s an af-33.
