I have a 92 SL2 that had the same problem for a while. It jerked hard into reverse and into 1st when put into drive. My problem was the main actuator failure, which, as far as I know, is the main relay for your transmission. Try replacing that, its only 15 dollars or so at AutoZone.

Let me know if that helps or not, and best of luck

Does any other gear bang? Most likley cause is a loose input shaft nut. if this not comes loose the tranny bangs into reverse and 2nd gear. if loose enought you will lose both gears.
