I have a 94 Saturn SL1 with a 1.9L and auto. Yesterday it started shifting hard into 1st, doesnt matter if shifting into drive or, coming to a stop when it goes into first. It also shifts hard into reverse. The ses light is on and it has a transmission code 45 which is Selector Switch no data. Anybody have ideas???

 

Do a forum search. The subject has been gone over a 1000 times.

 

ok i searched and i could not find somebody with these exact problems. the car only shifts hard into 1st and rev, shifts fine in every other gear. only has trans axle code 45. i want to believe this is an electrical problem as to for a little while yesterday it did not do it, and ses light went off for awhile, then turned the car off, and when i went to leave again the light came back on and was doing it again. please help with figuring out this problem.

 

could a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor cause this problem???

 

I'm not sure if the VSS would cause this or not. If it were mine though, I'd disconnect all of the connections and give them a good cleaning. Check the wires closely for a bare spot where one of them may be getting grounded too. That's about all I can think of. But keep in mind, that I'm NOT a mechanic.
