Hey guys, I just joined after seeing many problems similiar to the one I am having.


OK, I noticed my car was puffing out the blue smoke, I am pretty good about keeping my oil filled up. I go out and buy some stop smoke crap and throw it in. I drive about 25 miles and everything was fine.


The next day I drove it about 60 miles, again no problem.


So Monday roles around and I start my car up. White smoke is flowing like a river out of my exhaust pipe. I am thinking, great my head just blew. But there is no oil in coolant, no white stuff in my oil, the exhaust smells like oil burning. I checked my oil level and it was a bit high, I drained out some of the oil and started my car back up, well its been running for about 20 minutes and the smoke is still there, although not as bad as this morning.





Whats the deal? Will the MMO trick work?


BTW, its a 4-door SL1 1992 with about 170K, the car runs great otherwise.

 

I have tried the MMO soak two times without any improvement in oil consumption. I may give it another try, but if the internal parts are worn, nothing will bring them back to life except a new part.

 

sounds like the internals are shot.bad rings could be attributed to the smoke

MMO is the acronym for many things, but I believe they're referring to Marvel Mystery Oil.[img]smileys/smiley14.gif[/img]

If you're finding additional voume in the oil pan (and you did not overfill your oil) it sounds like coolant is mixing with the oil. Since you were already burning oil, the white smoke in the exhaust is simply the coolant (now mixed with the oil) burning along with the oil.

Could be head gasket--leaking -- not yet totally blown.

Check compression.

Best not to let these aluminum heads overheat--they tend to warp.
