OK -- totally confused now - is the engine a rebuilt 97 or a rebuilt 99? This thread started with it being a 99 engine in a 97 -- are you now saying it's a simply a 97 rebuilt?

If it is a 97 rebuild, then no, scratch the 99 fuel filter -- I stated that was for the 99 setup if it was indeed a 99.....(Sigh)

pls confirm if this is a rebuilt 97 or a rebuilt 99 DOHC

its neither, its a 1997 chassis, fuel rail, air intake manifold and EGR, with a 1999 SOHC that was picked out of a car that was scrapped (not rebuilt).....

Long story short, my 97 sl2 engine blew, so we cherry picked a 99 sl1 with 10000 miles on it and installed it.

oiy geeeeeez.......you never mentioned the SOHC part in the original thread, so I assumed it was a 99 DOHC.....

You finally mentioned it (SOHC) only a few posts ago in THIS thread....I'll admit I missed it.....but c'mon.....you mentioned nothing when i mentioned fuel injectors (of which you have NONE?)

______

Did you swap the PCM or at a minimum flash it to become a 99 SOHC?
Cause if not, I have no idea how a PCM from a 2nd gen DOHC would know how to correctly control a 3rd gen SOHC....yes the sensor inputs are pretty much the same, but how is it calc'ing what to do with the air fuel mix for your TBI when it thinks there are 4 fuel injectors?

Hmmmmmm

That i'm not sure about, a family member did the work on the car and i'm trying to resolve this one last issue...I can get in touch with him as soon as he gets back from out west....

What is the procedure for flashing the PCM?

also the PCM's for the 1997 and 99 saturn are listed as the same part number, what would the differance be?

Flashing PCM = dealer visit

the difference would be in the programming -- SOHC vs DOHC I would THINK would be different....don't know but then again I don't claim to be a PCM specialist

Call a saturn dealer and ask the service guys

Will do, they closed the one near me, so i'll be curious what they say. The one that was near me insisted there was no way it could run, i hope these guys are a little more into tinkering.
