Ok, I thought it was a fuel pressure issue....
 

However i have checked the pressure as well as replacing the ECTS, the engine temp gauge is more active now, but it still popped the code, any suggestions from there...So far i have checked Fuel pressure and vac leaks and replaced MAP sensor, ECTS, and AIS.....

any suggestions are welcome, i am running out of ideas unless it is the ECM...and thats gonna be something i cant test, rather frustrating.

1) what is the actual Pxxx Code for the lean fuel mix you're getting?

does anyone know if you need to flash the 97 PCM to think it's a 99 PCM since the top end of the 99 DOHC's were redesigned? I'm thinking maybe some fuel injector timing differences? Maybe? Anyone?

Also -- same question for the DIS module ( pretty sure the coils are the same)

P0171 is the code i am getting. and i went from a 97 DOHC to a 99 SOHC.

It tends to idle rough, but then once it comes up to speed the engine smooths out and runs very well, but i'm not sure what thats indicative of.

Was it a complete swap to a 99 (intake, TB, fuel rail and all)?

Asking because the 97 DOHC has a pressure regulator in the fuel rail, whereas I believe the 99 and up have it as part of the fuel filter.

If it is a full 99 setup, try an oem Saturn fuel filter.
Apparently aftermarket ones are known to cause issues.....

Also -- change your PCV valve lately?
While you're there, check the vac line going from the PCV to the throttle body for leaks...

I did have a bad vac line in the PCV - to the throttle body...

I can change the PCV while i'm waiting to hear back about the throttle body and fuel rail to find out if that was changed too. It would seem like a lack of a pressure reg would tend to cause it to run rich, but at this point, anything is worth a go.

I found out that all they did was an R&R on the motor, so I am using the original throttle body, and fuel rail.

use Saturn OEM PCV -- aftermarkets pass way too much oil
So...... They pulled the entire 97 and put in a complete 99? If so, I'd also go for an OEM saturn fuel filter for the 99 setup

Even with the 97 fuel rail and pressure reg already in the 97? Will do, and i'm gonna see if i can get my hands on a PCV valve from saturn, all i can find are after markets in the shops around here.
