Loose air filter assembly
MY 2002 Saturn SL2 is making a rattling whoosh noise I opend the hood and noticed the air filter assembly is missing a screw and its loose and rattling ts also stalled randomly would that cause it too stall???
I doubt the loose air filter cover is responsible for the stalling, especially if the air intake tube is still connected to the front of the box and the ducting that includes the top of the airbox is still clipped and attached to the bottom of the box. If it's not, open the air filter box and make sure no critters built a nest in there or the tube which would block airflow.
thanks I don't know anything about cars but I noticed its loose I would think that is the rattling I hear is the front supposed to be attached to anything or the air just goes out of the car I mean like a pipe or a hose its not connected to anything there is a hose connected to the engine and the assembly then another hose that does not connect to anything
hi i was hoping maybe that was it at least I can fix the rattle I read you can even use a plastic twist to hold it down its been a decent car since I bought it for a 2nd car around 10 yrs ago but last few yrs lots of problem it was a hassle and a lot of $$$ to get it to pass emissions the light has been on forever time to get rid of it 164,000 miles on it

When Saturn vehicles were sold new, they typically had a maintainence schedule that was planned out to 175,000 miles. You said your vehicle has about 164,000 miles, so it likely has a lot of life left, even if it hasn't been maintained perfectly.
Even after 175k miles, a Saturn can still has plenty of life left, but it might have some issues and require some attention that isn't typically needed in the first 175k miles of the vehicle's life.
If it is still starting and running, but stalls sometimes, try to collect and share the details with us about what you are doing when it stalls, and what you are doing when it doesn't stall.
As you also mentioned, thr Service Engine Soon light indicates that there is a issue that has to do with emissions standards, and not necessarily an indication of any mechanical problems.
I have over 240 k miles on my 95 SC2.
I racked up 265k miles on my '97 SC2.
There's plenty of life left in your vehicle. Every car goes through a phase where it seems like things are breaking one after another. But when you take a few steps back, you realize that most of them are simply parts wearing out because you're driving the vehicle longer than the expected lifetime of these parts. So it actually makes sense. But you got to pay to play. Still cheaper than a new car and the payments that come with it
