Looking at a 1995 Sl2
Im going to look at a 1995 SL2 tomorrow. Its a one owner, one driver, with 126,000 miles and a 5 speed manual. From the pictures the owner sent me it looks to be a great car Hes asking $1500, Ill see for sure in person tomorrow.
Is there anything special I should pay attention to when looking at the car?
Also what kind of gas milage should I get city and highway if I drive like I got a brain in my head. Also, what kind of 1/4 mile times have people got with the SL2 with the 5 speed?
I just sold my 2000 Camaro Z28 and the SL2 will be replaceing it. Looking for a better family car

1) How much oil does it burn per 3000 mi?
2) Ask to see service records indicating oil changes every 3K.
3) Has the car ever overheated? Blown a head gasket?
4) Any internal engine work done?
5) What has been replaced and when? Starter, radiator, water pump, alternator, PS pump/seals? Fuel pump? A/C (compressor)? Suspension/Struts? EGR valve? If the car has been maintained the owner will know or have records of any of these activities.
If you are serious about purchasing this car, have it looked over by someone knowledgeable of Saturns, and ensure they do a compression check--so you will know if you are buying a happy engine or one in need of a rebuild....
Documented maintenance records are your best indication of whether this vehicle was properly maintained. oil changes at 3K (not 5K, 6K...) are mandatory for longevity of these engines.
Price is kinda steep -- negotiate it down.
35 mpg on the highway with 2 passengers, a little less loaded down.

You might even think about pulling a CARFAX report on the VIN number...
It won't be as fast as your old Z car, but SL2s are quick enough to attract a "display of speed" ticket if you misbehave on the street...

I bought it. Paid $1300 cash. Its in real good condition. A few scratches and whatever and interior is near perfect AC blows cold.
The speedo got stuck on the way home at 15MPH What could the problem be?
Ill post another thread on that.
