Hey guys.... I have a 95 SL 5 speed that has been good to me. Last week she developed a terrible knock that I suspect is a bad rod. Is there any way I can determine with reasonable accuracy if it is indeed a rod? (Upper end I might tackle, but that would be beyond my capabilities...)


Here are the symptoms: Loud knocking at idle, evens out at about 2000 RPM, then gets louder up the rev range.


I can handle nuts and bolts but don''t want to go pulling the engine myself, so I''d like a clue as to what I am in for. Thanks!
