Default Hi, and Saturn near End of Life

Hi all,

I am re-establishing here since the "other" Saturn Forum seems to have gone kaput.

I am the original owner of a 1998 SL with 203K miles on it. It's a fine car but due to rust on the frame and underbody, my mechanic states he CANNOT let it pass inspection again when it's due at the end of 2024.

I plan to keep it until then, but when it's time to say goodbye I would prefer to let it go to another Saturn owner as an "organ donor" rather than to a random junkyard,

Any advice on how to get it to someone who can use it for parts rather than just go into a landfill??

Underbody everywhere but apparently main concern is where rear frame meets suspension. Mechanic says it’s gonna fail soon and very pricey to fix.

Put it on Craigslist under Auto Parts.

It' s free. Listing it under Cars and Trucks costs $5.

Be up front as to the problem. Don' t expect a pile of money. At $400 to $500 it should sell quickly. You may not get a response right away - but somebody out there will need an engine, tranny, body panel or something off of it.

I try to keep an extra or three out behind the barn...

Got it. Thanks I figured that might be my best bet. I had heard that CL ads attract spammers so I am a little askeered but can use an old email address for it. I don't plan to get rid of it until the end of the year unless something catastrophic happens. It's sad, but it close to goodbye time.

Funny thing with CL scammers - they tend to use sniping programs - so they show up within the first 1/2 hour of the ad being published. The answers will be cut and paste format and easy to spot --- and ignore...

Good luck.

Don't let the real people anywhere near your house.
Especially when they turn down buying the car. What else will they have seen?

Default Hi

I am sad for you. I too have a 1998 SL 2. You could list yours for parts on Facebook Marketplace. Have you thought about taking it to a body shop for rust repair?
