Default ects question

Hello all,

I got a P1620 code after replacing the ECTS with a new brass NGK one. I realized I put the connector on upside down after getting that code and have since corrected the connector. Did this do any damage to the ECTS or wiring? Should I look for blown fuse or just clear the code?

thanks

P1620 set if the PCM detects too low of a response from the ECTS circuit for 20 seconds uninterrupted.

You probably had the key in the on position or the car running after you installed the new sensor but before you put the connector onto the sensor. So the code set before you attached anything.

It should clear itself after enough key cycles or you can clear it yourself. It's only a problem if it comes back.

What year? Gage sensor or PCM sensor?

If it is the ECTS that plugs into the PCM then there is no problem reversing the leads, it is a thermistor with no polarity for the two leads and there is no ground connection.

Check for a bent pin on the ECTS.
