DIY resinator replacement
This seems to be a common acurance for us SL owners from what i here ... so this is for the diyers out there
I did this becuase mine is rusted out and a replacement cost anywhere from $72 to $224
what you will need:
1: 2in inlet/outlet 30in long cherry bomb
or 2in inlet/outlet 30in long peice of pipe
1: 2in outside diamter to 1 3/4 in inside diamiter reducer
if not welding in
2: 2in exhaust clamp
1: 1 3/4 exhausr clamp
14mm socket (may vary)
ratchet
jack
jack stands or lift
hacksaw, exhaust pipe cutter, sawzall, cutting wheel, somthin to cut the exhaust with....
Step1: put on lift and raise or jack up the car and put on jack stands(as high as safely possible)(4 will make this easier too)
Step2: locate rusted resinator
Step3: cut out rusted res
(cut close to the end of the res)
Step4: put adapter onto back part of the exhaust..
Step 5: put bomb/pipe onto adapter
Step6: put bomb/pipe on to pipe (cat side)
Step7: weld or tighten exhaust clams
Step8: fire it up and hear your result
I did mine today with the cherry bomb u cant tell the difference from stock...
on a side note:strait peice of pipe will be somewhat louder... when i called the dealer to get a price on the parts they even said instead of spending $224 on it from them what i can do is stick a peice of pipe in there only dif is it will be a little louder
