Default Can’t open driver’s door due to dumb mistake….

I locked my keys in my car today. My wonder stepfather came to save the day with a slim Jim…. Didn’t work drove 4 hours round trip for the spare. Anyways get back to car go to unlock the door no action in the cylinder. Cool no prob go unlock the passenger side to open for from the inside I unlock it and nothing. Looking for suggestions for in the morning. It was midnight eastern time exhausted. Please need to figure out how to get the panel off. You all have always come in clutch for me don’t fail me now

Sounds like it has electric door lock actuators which I would think would only stop working if the battery was on its way out.

Can't see what year this is of S car so I don't know what kind of fob you have. I'm going to assume you tried to use the remote keyless entry fob but it also produced no response, which again would lead me to think battery.

THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS TO BE PERFORMED AT YOUR OWN RISK. I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PERSONAL CHOICE SHOULD YOU CHOOSE TO USE IT NOR DO I TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS AS A RESULT .

THIS PROCEDURE IS ONLY POTENTIALLY APPROPRIATE IF THE BATTERY IS IN FACT SUFFICIENTLY DISCHARGED TO NOT BE ABLE TO HAVE THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS FUNCTION.

USE OF THIS PROCEDURE FOR ANY OTHER REASON IS ILL-ADVISED AND ESSENTIALLY POINTLESS.

EXTREME CARE IS REQUIRED TO AVOID SHORTING OUT THE BATTERY ON YOUR CAR AS WELL AS POTENTIALLY THAT OF A JUMPER BATTERY FROM ANOTHER CAR.

Since you need 12 volts at the battery plus a ground to the chassis, might you be able to jack up the car, hook up a jumper cable to the positive battery lead at the starter AFTER disconnecting it from the starter.

DO NOT LET THE POSITIVE LEAD THAT WAS CONNECTED TO THE STARTER TOUCH ANY METAL UNDER THE VEHICLE. SAME GOES FOR THE POSITIVE CABLE COMING FROM THE JUMPER CAR. DOING SO WILL CAUSE A DIRECT SHORT CIRCUIT AND LIKELY DAMAGE BOTH BATTERIES. ALSO, DO NOT TOUCH THE POSITIVE LEAD METAL AT THE END OF THE CABLE AS IF YOU GROUND YOURSELF YOU GET WILL GET SHOCKED IN ALL LIKELIHOOD

Then find a good clean ground on the chassis. The other ends would be hooked up to a vehicle in a jump start configuration.

With the disconnected lead to the starter, receiving current at 12 volts, The battery is supplied the voltage it needs and the vehicle will not try to start on you while you are under it. Chassis ground is chassis ground and should complete the electrical circuit. Once that circuit is completed, the door lock actuators should work. In theory.

Once you are in, take the keys and put both sets outside the vehicle out of reach. REMOVE THE JUMPER CABLES CAREFULLY, AGAIN BEING SURE NOT TO TOUCH THE POSITIVE CABLE TO ANYTHING LEST YOU SHORT IT OUT

DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE, THEN POSITIVE LEAD AT YOUR BATTERY TO ALLEVIATE THE RISK OF SHORTING OUT THE OTHER END WHILE REATTACHING IT TO THE STARTER
Reconnect the positive lead to the starter.
Reconnect the positive lead at the battery.
RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE LEAD AT THE BATTERY.

Check your work
Check it again
Check it again.

Reconfirm that the key is open the doors AKA the door lock actuators are functioning.

If this is a third generation S car, you will probably need to do a passlock relearn procedure. Search this forum for the procedure. Once that completes successfully, the vehicle should start
