Cabin decklid release failure.
Registered just to say thanks for this information! I had the same issue w/ my '96 SL2 and this is the ONLY place I was able to find any tangible information about this switch, what it looked like, removal instructions, etc. Even poured over all the service manuals I've stashed away (and including charm.li) and could not find anything...
Turns out my switch had also dislodged itself from the mounting clips just like yours! Switch was still working just fine so I secured it to the lever mechanism and was back in business.
I had the confidence to dig in and pull the seat / carpet / etc. thanks to the detail you provided here - thanks again!
