hello i have been haveing some unsual issues with my 99 sl1 lately. it has a DOHC in it 5 speed. problems-driving down the road in gear shifting come to a stoplight i put it in neutral and the RPMs are still at 2k while i am stopped. after likde 10-15 seounds they drop back to normal. it does this almost everytime now. everytime i get ouuta gear it does this.





another thing that was uncommon is the car stalled on me and when i tried to restart it. it kept trying to crank over but would not start. it started about 5 min after i jacked with it and did nothing.


any help would be awesome. my car has about 250k and it has not given me any trouble. the clutch is wearing but i will manage

Sounds like the throttle position sensor (TPS) is either loose, or starting to break down internally. Personally, I would replace it ...

 

Could also be the coolant temperature sensor.

Also did you or someone else do an engine swap in the car? Because it that was not done correctly, your problem could have something to do with that. Only reason I ask is because you say you have a DOHC engine in your SL1. SL1''s didnt come with DOHC engines.

 

check the idle air control passages in the intake manifold and check to see if they arn''t clogged with carbon. a little intake cleaner could solve that problem
