Hi all! I have a 2001 SL2 that does have a hard shift between 2-3. Recently I started feeling a vibration, so I'm thinking motor mount. Got the mounts, took it to my mechanic, and he found the broken bracket in the picture. Where can I find this bracket? What is it actually called? Thanks for your knowledge 🙂
Please indicate where the picture was taken from and what it is looking down on, with reference to the named parts on either side. I will likely be able to identify once I get my bearings.
Is this passenger side high, passenger side low, driver side, under transmission?
There are two torque access mount system mounts. One is at the top of the engine passenger side. Faults to frame and three studs attached to engine. The other is a strut on a shallow angled bracket and is located low on the passenger side.
There is a small transmission mount that sits between the transmission and the frame.
Finally a transmission strut mount on the driver side which attaches to a bracket on one end which then attaches to the transmission and the other end bolts to the frame.
All of the aftermarket mounts are shayt. No more oems top Tam mounts for several years. They were the only ones that reduced vibration.
The manual and automatic transmission versions of this vehicle have different brackets that attach the transmission strut mount to the transmission. Based on the transmission fluid and what looks to be transmission cooler lines, I am tentatively guessing that is part of a bracket that attaches a transmission strut mount to the transmission. I am having difficulty getting oriented because I do not see the strut itself in the picture. Please advise
Here is a GM diagram of all of the possible engine mount parts and related brackets. Note that MP6 MP7 correspond to the automatic transmission parts. Your mechanic and/or you should be able to identify from this diagram.

The picture was taken from underneath while the car was on the lift. My understanding is it does have something to do with one of the doggone mounts, my mechanic told me no point in putting new mounts on until the bracket is replaced. Thanks for answering! I love my little 'Silver Bullet', I'm 5 feet tall and it fits me perfectly!

Sorry for the lack of response I did not see your reply. then that would be one of the brackets for the transmission strut mounts if that is low on the engine and you're the transmission. The correct one should be on that page that I sent the web address from which you probably have already realized if you have given it to him. If not give him the page and he should be able to sort it out if that is indeed a bracket that attaches the dog bone mount to the frame
The other dog bone mount is low on the passenger side and supports the bottom corner the bottom front corner of the engine. As mentioned earlier it has a shallow angled long bracket. Because I do not know exactly what was being photographed while underneath the car I can't really tell what that is. However if that dog bone bracket was completely broken off like that low on the passenger side, that engine dog bone Mount would it be presumably missing which would be quite a mess with the engine jumping around in there.
At the risk of too many replies to your post, I do not understand your mechanics comment. He is saying there is no point on putting a new mount on there until the bracket is replaced. I am under the impression this is part of an engine mount mounting bracket. Based on his comment it sounds as though a new dog bone Mount could be installed right now, which means that I am wrong as to it being a broken piece of a mount attachment bracket.
If he is still having trouble locatiing the part, please ask him whether the part is in front of or behind the transmission and what the part attaches to on the end that is not broken off. I will then forward more schematics or he can simply go through the schematics on that site. Obviously a part number would be super helpful but once we identify what category it is in it shouldn't take too long. Likely in the frame category. Do you have a zoomed out picture for reference? Or other pictures from different angles?
Oh, for the record, you're paying your mechanic to fix your vehicle, not me.
He has access to much better documentation than I do (the internet) though if he is not familiar w Saturns I can see him wanting to take the easy way out.
Just pointing out this is work he is charging you for. Parts acquisition included. I will continue to be of assistance if I can, but if the part has not been identified yet, seems like someone is slacking at your expense.
Thanks for the diagrams, they were very helpful to for me! Mechanic found the bracket, going this morning to have it done. Thanks for your help and knowledge, couldn't have done it myself!
