2001 SL1 Stalls When Braking
Hi,
I've read a few forums on this problem some say to change a cooling sensor, others that there's a fuel filter/pump issue, and others that say that the brake line could be clogged, leaking, or the brake hose might need replacing due to leak/rupture etc.
My car has no issue starting, the rpms jump to 1100-1200 on start and idles at about 900 rpm. About 3 days ago it started trying to stall on my when coming to a stop at lights two times that day. Since then it's escalated to actually stalling on me 4 times yesterday. Once I was just slowing down to go around a corner and I was still going about 20MPh when it stalled, I put the gear in neutral, turned the key to off, then turned the engine on again and kept going. So my starter is not an issue. (I can always turn it off and on again. (computer geek joke ;] ))
I was going to change the brake hose and calipers/pads anyways so I changed those yesterday.
Anyways, I've bought and will be changing the fuel filter and cooling sensor on the car tomorrow; as it's raining yet again (no garage or car port)
If this doesn't turn out to be the issue, what could it be? I really need to get this fixed urgently as I'm in the middle of a move. Thanks!

Stop by your local Harbor Freight company (or similar), and purchase one of their inexpensive digital voltmeters. Connect the leads to your battery, and measure the voltage with the engine off ... should be about 12.6 volts. Now start the engine, and measure again ... should be about 13.8 volts, or perhaps a bit more. If you don't get these results, stop by a local AutoZone (or similar), and have them check the battery and charging system. I'm suspecting either (1) battery that won't hold a charge, or (2) an alternator problem (bad diodes).
Course, a slipping serpentine belt might be the issue, but you didn't mention it squealing. Let us know what you find out, please .....
