Default 02 SL1 Missfire SOHC

I've swapped coil packs, wires, plugs (gaped .040), and it's still a number 1 misfire. It also calls for a new EGR Valve but the auto part store only has the solenoid sitting under the intake. Any takes on the issue?

Might be the intake manifold gasket. Squirt some ether or carb cleaner in the vicinity, and see if the idle evens out.

Pull the EGR valve and see if it is sticky. I had one where it caused all kinds of problems. Cleaned out the egr valve the best I could with a screw driver and carb cleaner, stuck it back in, with a new gasket from the parts store, ( about 3 bucks), and the car ran like a dream! Don't buy a new EGR until you absolutely have to!

Good 4 U! I have not had an EGR problem in my Saturn yet. But then again, have not driven the miles on it. Did have a Mistusbishi I put a ton of miles on that had a sensor that monitored EGR operation. About every 70 or so thousand miles I would get a check engine light and the Code was an EGR valve. Found I could clean it with Carburator cleaner as it was caboned up and re-install it. For some reason or another was looking in a wrecking yard for Mitsubishi engine parts and I never saw another with the sensor. Don't know why, but when it carboned up where the light came on, the engine also ran like garbage so maybe it was a good thing. Gonna have to remember this if my Saturn ever runs that lousy.
