my gf's sl1 has a miss when it idleing. there is no check engine light on but it also has had erratic idle for the past few months (sometimes high idle 1500-2000 some times it misses and almost stalls) any idea what could be causing it

intake gasket most likely leaking spray carb cleaner near the intake/power steering pump area see if the idle changes.

 

If you let it idle for two minutes after it has warmed up, you should get a
check engine light for the high idle. It should be P0507, you can get it read
for free at any AutoZone or many other parts stores.

Ignore all the recommended fixes until after you do what original007
suggests which is to spray wd40 or carburetor cleaner around the intake
manifold gasket around the #1 cylinder. Any change in the idle will confirm
that you need a new intake manifold gasket, a common problem with these
engines.
