L300 timing belt kits
Today I replaced the timing belt, tensioner and idler pulleys. I also replaced the water pump, serpentine belt and it’s tensioner.
Good news, if you purchase the wrong kit it will still work. There is a split somewhere in 2002. I ordered my kit by the before/after serial number and still got the wrong kit. All cars take the same belt so I used the base plate that came on the car. I installed the new tensioner and adjustable idler onto my original plate. The idler on the forward side on my car had no adjustments. The extra idler that came with the kit was adjustable so I pushed the bushing out of my original idler and installed it in the new idler. The early cars use the white marks on the belt, the late cars use the white marks on the front head and the yellow marks on the rear head and crank. Check all the lines and turn it two crank revs and check the marks again. Put it together and drive it another 100k miles. This is the first time I have pushed it past 5000 rpms and it runs great. The belts were in poor shape after 20 years and only 98k miles. Probably should be 5 years or 100k which ever comes first kind of maintenance. This 3.0 is fun to drive, I wish they had sold these with a stick shift. I hate the E10 socket head bolts! The E12 bolts are ok.
