My 2003 2.2l saturn's is blowing a 15amp fuse when we try to start it. The Fuse box diagram shows that fuse is in the spot labeled rear wiper relay. This car does not have a rear wiper.

What is this fuse for, and what is causing it to blow?

 

Not trying to be insulting but are you sure you're holding the cover in the correct orientation/identifying the fuse correctly. May want to double check the owner's manual. They often show the layout there as well

 

Derf, not insulating at all. I did double check the orientation before posting.

I think the trouble I am having is that the diagram on the fuse box, and even my manual are referencing the L200 Wagon, which does have a rear wiper, and thus the rear wiper relay on the diagram and in the manual. I have the sedan.

 

does the car start /run and just blow this fuse or does it not start at all?
What's the history of the car and its title?
Is the SES light on? (if it doesn't start but the light stays on with key in on position, I believe this means the car has stored trouble codes.

Was this a sudden occurrence or is this normal behavior for the vehicle? Didn't know the L series had model specific fuse blocks. Usually the same for a model line with the unused circuits left empty.

What else does the owner's manual say is on that fuse?

 

It does not start. Last night, when I discovered the blown fuse, I replaced it, and watched it pop as someone tried to start the car.

We are the second owner of the car. I've owned it for 5 years.

My apologies, I'm not familiar with the abbreviation SES.

This is a sudden occurrence. Never happened before.

As far as the fuse block, it looks like it is a generic block to be used for both the wagon and the sedan. On the block where this 15 amp fuse is, its surround by four "ports" where you would plug in the rear wiper relay for the wagon model.

The owner's manual only identifies that fuse as the rear wiper relay.

 

The fuse is blowing because a hot lead is going to ground. I have never had a LCar but I'd do an internet search. I'd also look for pictures of that cover to see if you can find one different than yours. If any of our users owns a LCar post a photo of the inside of the lid. Yleetsj it would be a good idea if you did the same. Good clear in focus photograph of the inside of your fuse cover.

I have an L 200, but mine's a wagon. I'll see about getting a pic of the inside of my cover tomorrow and post it. I don't have an owners manual, so I've not chimed in on this one yet.

Is there a Rear Wiper RELAY in the junction box? Prob s squat square thing.

SES= Service Engine Soon Light. Literally says service engine soon.

Remember -- you are not the first owner; someone could have put that fuse there by mistake -- in which case nothing should be in there. That or whatever relay it is fusing is shorted
