Saturn Ion 2003 Manual and recently started doing this thing where I can't fill more than 30 seconds worth of gas without the gas pump shutting off over and over. It's not cause my gas tank is full either. I think it's maybe the charcoal canister or the weird vent valve thing maybe idfk sos

Looks to me like you've already given yourself 2 things to check. You're not one of those people who keeps filling after the pump clicks off, are you? If so, you'd best start with the charcoal canister. If not, check the vent. You might also try rotating the pump handle 180 degrees. Sometimes that works and I have no idea why.

 

This appears to be a common Ion problem with a vent solenoid rusting or just sticking. Jerama or Billy will be along soon to explain how to fix it.

 

Problem Description

The 2004-2010 Chevrolet Malibu has known issues with the EVAP system, a part of your emission control system.

The EVAP canister vent valve or valve solenoid wiring may fail causing illumination of the check engine light, setting code P0446, and problems filling the tank with fuel.

To correct the issue, the EVAP canister vent valve, solenoid, and wiring must be inspected. The most common fix is replacement of the wiring connector or replacement of the vent valve assembly.

I have not tried driving with the cap off. I'll try that and see what happens.
