The back glass basically imploded for no apparent reason. I looked around but haven't found any videos or write ups specific to the ion on how to do a replacement. I'm pretty handy (built engines, done glass on other cars) so was going to grab a salvage yard glass for 30 bucks and DIY it. Anyone know anything particular I should watch out for or be aware on this job? Thanks!

If the frame received significant impact.....

 

The car has never been wrecked and is rarely driven these days. It actually only has 102k miles on it. It looked fine and then I just shut the door getting out and the entire rear glass caved in. Very weird. I guess it had some tiny imperfection that just compromised the whole thing somehow.

 

I'm not much on body work, and have never done front or rear glass (had SafeLite do my windshield when I got my Ion), although have replaced door glass. I am on vacation and don't have access to my FSM right now, but can check next week when I get back home if the issue still exists. I wouldn't think there is anything special in replacing rear glass in the Ion compared to other GM compacts - the roof is metal like other models.
