Default 2006 ion B shift solenoid. Hahaha

I keep this as simple as I can without getting too far off topic but after everything I've been through with this vehicle this year I'm about like. I think they screwed up the name they were trying to find a close translation 4 struggle at turn and run. I'm new here I will try to be descriptive and informative where I can because I've done a lot of research and may have learned some things that will hopefully help other people. Okay new friends from what I know after 2006 Saturn had to start making their own transmissions in Canada the 4t45e. It took me at least a week or two to figure that out after my car broke down. Now my issue is the B shift solenoid. My code is po 977 2 to 3 shift solenoid circuit high voltage. I thought I had a transmission mechanic coming to work on it and he said he knew these Transmissions but never showed. He stated that the code does mean that it is either that solenoid or a wire running from the PCM to the transmission case connector. I purchased a shift solenoid/transmission control solenoid. And some wiring. I managed to scrape up enough work that to survive and come up with $200 cash which according to research is supposed to be a little more then expected labor cost for this. According to 1 Saturn related website cost of labor for this should be like a hundred 2 177. Anyways I finally managed to get a mechanic willing to come out after spending a day on the phone with him trying to educate him on these Transmissions because he was interested and he bought an Alldata subscription for step-by-step repair procedure. After two days at my house he finally tells me today that he can't get the transmission moved enough to get his hand in there to work on it like I read on another Saturn forum. A guy managed to get the transmission positioned just enough to get his fingers into change his solenoids. So of course he's left at this point and I paid him $150 but he's going to call some people and like I am right now trying to figure out how to finish this job. because I'm also bartering some things with him to get him to come back. So my car is torn apart I'm still in the same position and I can't even get my car out of my garage now to do anything with it and I have to start a new job Monday. Any kind of help or information how to get us that extra room because he can't figure out how to even if you takes a couple other Mount bolts out how to get it up high enough for position or supported or something. So sorry for this long post but I guess this is my dilemma and any help would be appreciated. Thank you

DD can you help the dude.

Never pay someone for a job they don't complete. The answer you seek is out on the internet. Sift through YouTube for a related video. Richpin has a lot of Saturn YouTube videos. Many are s cars but there are some ions and other Saturns as well.

2006 Transmission Valve Body access - SaturnFans.com Forums

this is the thread with a little bit of a step by step how he did it. Hopefully this helps someone else and maybe somebody can read this and no enough to tell me what we're missing

And I forgot a couple pieces of info that's probably needed. I have the 2006 ion 3 with 2.2 automatic. Trying to get used to using a forum.

My bad period was not implying to not pay the man at all.

The alignment internally should be close to the same on most vehicles that share that transmission. Maybe it's not your hand that does the aligning, maybe it's a tool or something flexible shaped just the right way. But if I can be aligned on the other cars I can be aligned on yours and vice versa period so I would spend some time looking at some of the videos for other vehicles with the same tranny . They can't possibly have placed a transmission in all that different of a place and the valve body by definition is going to be in the exact same place on the transmission.

Ironically but maybe not so, I have only recently broken through the mental block of not being sure enough of myself to just go Hands-On and get in there and figure ****e out. I know now to be patient and not to break stuff that I do not understand. I take forever, it frustrates other people to try to help me and I understand why . But in the end I am finding that I usually solve the problem, maybe not the way others would or the way I should, but it works and is safe. I have a tremor and my manual dexterity is crap. But I have spent the last several weeks doing nothing but blind operations trying to fix several issues on my 95. Why would I subject myself to this? Because I like to be able to fix this stuff on the fly meaning with my own hands and my own mind. Yes I consult material YouTube and the rest of the net and forms of course, but in the end there is no substitute for dropping the same bolt 17 times trying to put it in in a blind operation until you figure out exactly how to do it without dropping it period what took me half an hour at the beginning takes me 45 seconds now. Yes half an hour fumbling around.

My suggestion is that going forward, take the time to think and approach through and give it a try yourself first. Just take your time and you will not break anything. Even if you do, it is an ancient Saturn whose monetary value is minimal. Plus it's your car and if you f it up, it's your car and no one else really cares. I'm willing to bet everyone who has done whatever repair you guys are attempting have done it slightly differently so don't let that box in your thinking . Draw it out if you have to period whatever it takes. I think you will quickly find that the satisfaction you get from solving these issues in your own head with your own hands will slowly but surely convert your hate of working on cars to something approaching a satisfying experience . It will take time but eventually I do think you can get there. Given the amount you have been posting on this forum, she's clear to me that you have an interest in knowing and doing more. You can only learn so much from others experience. At some point you just have to dive in. I have done that only in the last year and quite honestly it is one of the few things getting me through this pandemic but also is a great source of satisfaction.

I'm known on this form for being much more of a jackass than inspirational, but I say what I feel when I feel it. You will get there . The key is at your own pace

Cobalt has the same space as the ion. If you can find a video on that.
I part out autos when they blow. Not worth fixing in my eyes. 5 speed will take a beating all day everyday and the clutch will let go first.

yes I saw a very short video for Cobalt but the guy was already passed where I needed in the video started with a bottle jack under the front and it draining and then when he did the work all the stuff up top was out of the way. Yeah I wouldn't worry so much about this car if I didn't still have loan on it. I haven't purchase very many cars and I'm trying to work on my credit after not using it for like 15 years ruined it in my twenties. But at this point definitely more optimistic. Definitely paying more than what the car is worth for it but it's serving its purposes.

Derf, thanks man but you wrote too much to quote you. At this point I'm kicking myself in the *** because instead of being nice and trying to not bother this guy while he was working I should have been out there making sure all the right things were being done. Haha. Slow start on it today but like you said taking my time and having to figure out what tools I need whatever but making me take way longer than what it should somebody but I've already made a lot more room up top.
Didn't move none of the stuff out of the way better. Didn't unbolt the battery cables from the fuse box which gave a lot more room to pull the whole set up out of the way they didn't disconnect the shift positioner all the way or whatever that things called. Took one bolt out of the main unit in the back what might have been the sensor for that but still can't get that little black part off. But I don't necessarily think I have to be concerned about it yet. and I've got a picture where you can see down in there or not easily but where are there some Mount bolts still in. I believe no attempt was made to support and reposition the transmission a little. I believe that's kind of where I'm at.
And I'm a little bit of both myself but I do have one of those personality types that is hard to work for or with oh, I've been tested.
