You are a pretty wise guy there you managed to figure out I’m a from the old school quickly!!! And I didn’t think that it could actually be a good thing for the fluid color change but the one thing I noticed throughout all of this was that the fluid from both the transmission and coolant were both clean of any debris and I went slowly through the transmission fluid to be sure to look for anything and found nothing other than dirty weak fluid discolored to black. And I did the coolant flush because I was concerned about the transmission hot flashing, I tested the coolant and it was worn as well so I flushed it, funny thing is that the light flashes when you first started it and maybe for a few minutes in a test drive and come back and the motor is hot to normal temperature but not the transmission fluid lines or even the case? But it is saying hot after sitting for a whole day and night? I also have a code for p0113 which is for air intake temperature sensor 1circuit high bank 1 and I believe it’s the sensor on the plastic tubing from the air filter intake we moved it to gain access to the radiator plug and didn’t secure it properly together when we moved it so I think it should disappear, and to me it feels like when you are driving it if you let off the gas you almost kinda maintain speed on its own and it is not slipping but to me it goes in and out of the gears hard but not over bearing it shifts correctly at the right time but has more feeling in the shift? I’m hoping that it settles in when we can finally change the filter and fluid once again, I changed my fluid on my highlander for a quote of 250 and left with a 780 bill!! He said that the bolts were stuck and had to tap 5 of them??? I had no choice but to let him do the work I wanted to wait until he finished working on it but he said he couldn’t even guarantee that he would be finished that day so he basically told me to leave at 10 in the morning and I got it at 5, I was not very happy but we call that a lesson learned? I’m 61 and have had many of those lessons!!!

It is remotely possible that the trans temperature measurement is relative to that air intake temp. I highly highly highly doubt that but I thought I'd mention it because it came flying through my head. Yeah if the connector is not on there right or it's laying under the hood heating up to engine temperature it's going to read as out of range so to speak since it's not supposed to be at engine temperature. You mentioned earlier that the filter was right by temperature sensor so I'm thinking it just got thwacked and broken, or a lead got broken. Let us know what happens when you get your fluid and filter and sensor put together and what the result was.

Default 2004 ion 2 VTi cvt transmission hot indicator light on and off

Hey guys thanks for all your help until now but I’m still having issues and received a trans filter today to open it up and replace and see what is up? Doesn’t look right so I’m going through the gm parts center with vin and ask for the filter and 2 come up and both say fit my car and confirmed it in there fittment section also the fluid temperature sensor is no where to be found? Was told that the only dealer he could find for this part was in Virginia and had one but he checked and doesn’t have it a service guy talked to me for about half hour and shed some light on the codes and I’m stressing, my plan was to open it up change the filter and fluid and inspect the sensor for any issues and I can’t believe that two different filters would fit the same car? Gm part # are 24220578 and 24226576 and of course I think the one I don’t have is the right one although I’m not sure? I have 24220578 vin # I can furnish if needed?thank you all so much

Default 2004 Saturn ion 2 transmission fluid temperature sensor problem

Good afternoon everyone just giving you a update on the situation I am still in, first I spent a solid day of work waisted trying to do the filter change on my AF23 transmission only to find out I didn’t ask the right questions to the right people and went the route of someone else who by the way is lucky enough to have the best version of changing the filter on this transmission and what I found was that some of the transmissions are different than others and that they have 3versions of this transmissions in the ion2 which explains why I couldn’t find the filter behind the pan!!!!! It’s been moved in my transmission to the middle of the transmission and requires removal of the transmission and splitting the transmission to get it as it’s basically never needed to change except for rebuilding.,be aware that this is why you see to different filters for the transmission that year and model and should dig really deep to find out exactly what you need.. if you can find it out there? Also I’m still open to any suggestions on going forward with this as the issue still isn’t resolved yet? I also found out thru the book from the manufacturer that there’s several companies of cars that have the same transmission manufactured and sold in there vehicles under a different model number so maybe there’s hope that a real company can help us going forward as GM has no interest in doing so!! Let me know if you’re interested in this information or you can help me with a solution

Please post all posts related to the same issue in a single thread.

I just spent 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back merging three of your threads into one. Did the world end? Almost. Updates in the new member area? Cmon now. People who come along after we are dead will never find shayt posted like that.

This site is actually backed up.

I've been following this thread, trying to filter through all the verbiage, and finally consulted my Ion FSM, which does have a chapter on the VT-25E transmission. And it states that the transmission fluid temperature (TFT) sensor is actually part of the 'module leadframe' - the component bolted to the valve body that all the electrical wiring is routed through. I suspect that the only way to replace that sensor is to replace this component, which may be even harder to find, or more expensive if you can find one. I suggest checking the wiring in the large connector and ensure that none of the pins are bent or out of position. (If I understand correctly, the pan has to be removed to drain the fluid, requiring disconnecting this connector.) So glad my Ion is a manual transmission.

Default 2004 ion 2 hot transmission light flashing

Hey I have an update on my problems with my sons car and just let me say that I’m am sincerely grateful for the support this website has given me and thank you all! I bought a scanner to see what the issue was it cost a hundred bucks and was worth every penny!! It took some time and research to understand what the data provided and it was apparent that the ecu module was getting erratic information from the heat temperatures on the engine. Checked coolant sensor and it failed so I replaced it and and it still wasn’t right however the engine overheated during a test drive and the a/c went into a shut down with high pressure codes which lead me to the fan which was always only coming on with the a/c and was not anymore traced the wiring harness back to the 2nd relay and it was broken and causing arching and I replaced it from there with a new relay and everything cleared out!!! She runs and drives awesome no transmission issues gas usage is awesome and I feel blessed!!! Thank you DERF AND OLD MARINE FOR ALL YOUR HELP! The scanner is a much needed tool in today’s game for sure but I think not giving up and you guys made my repair bills less the fluids which were maintenance issues at under150 including the scanner! By the way the duramax transmission atf/cvt universal fluid works perfectly for the transmission and was 23 bucks a gallon from Walmart! ✌️✌️👍

That is good news, I agree that you need an actual scanner to diagnose problems on computer cars.

Perseverance and scanners plus knowledge equals power.
Way to stick at it.
