Im looking at buying an 03 vue 4cyl awd with the cvt trans. Its got super low miles and a working trans, is there any way to prevent the cvt from going before it start? Can it be swapped for any other trans from another year? What actually gos bad in the cvt? I really like the car but cant take the risk of buying it unless i know there is another trans option

Did the 2003 VUE come with a manual transmission? I'll guess with a little thought you can put that one in.

In the mean time you could read the sticky on this site related to VTI to manual swap for the Saturn ION. It would be much the same.

 

Its all wheel drive, arnt all the manuals front wheel drive?

 

If thats the case, I'd stay away from the rig.

 

I don't know of anyone doing an AWD VUE tranny swap. Not that it's has not been done.
