Actually the crappy fuel consumption was just the first half of the first tank... I've gotten as high as 24.5mpg, and my last tank was like 22.85... I still beat on it plenty though... I've got sticky new tires, and use them appropriately... Cruising at 65 on two lanes... My shift points go something like 4k, 3.2k, 3k, 2.8k, unless I need to overtake, then I shift at 6900...

Well, I need to do that(it usually shows short trip averages nearing 50mpg), but I was estimating that based on the trip meter(which I zero out when I fill up) and the fuel gauge... I went like 95-100 miles on the first half tank... Now, I usually get 80-90 miles on the first quarter, and 200 or so by the time I've got a quarter left...

So, I've got a new development(problem) with my Redline...

Well, actually, two..

1. I've lost my blocker panel (one of the ones I made from floor mats)...

2. I've recently experiencing some oil loss... Actually, it's coming from the dipstick hole... As in, blown out by boost... Wondering if it's a PCV valve issue or my rings are suddenly extremely shot...

That would mean PCV passageway not large enough for volume of blow by, which would only be an issue if all that forced air is indeed slipping past the rings. Which would be detectable on a compression test, no?

That would truly suck.

Its a common issue on lsj's.
I just cant think of what it is at the moment.
google it, and read up on the cobaltss net. There is a ton more info there on it than the redline forum.
I would do it if I wasn't on my phone. If you don't get to it by the time I get up in the morning ill find out for you.

Been doing some reading, and it seems there are a number of possible issues with this engine...

1. Intake manifold gasket is allowing boost directly into the PCV system... Solution-change gasket

2. PCV check valve gone bad(slim odds)... Solution-change valve

3. Worn rings allowing above normal blow-by gases into crankcase... Solution- check compression to verify condition

4. Cracked ring lands on piston #4 (small chance)... Solution- replace engine

It has been acting a little funny at other times too... Occasionally, when I play, it'll lose boost... It will usually drop from the normal amount, to 7-8, sometimes 10psi when it usually makes 12 psi at 4000, and 16 by 6800...

I don't know if the recent random boost loss is a cracked piston, but it would make sense(piston acts normally but the crack opens up under the added heat of long WOT pulls, and allows boost to get into the crankcase)

Of course, the intake gasket is just as likely to fail, and I *could* just get a bigger o-ring for the dipstick and call it good (keeps it from popping out)... From what I read, these cars have a poorly designed PCV system...

I don't like the sound of any of this. Especially that it has a new-ish motor in it.
Lets hope its just the IM gasket or the pcv valve.

I'm hoping it's just an intake/PCV issue... Rebuilding/replacing an LSJ can be expensive... That said, I wonder if an L61 can stand in, in a pinch? Same physical dimensions, and the intake/exhaust will bolt up, and it's cheaper and more common...
