04 ion 4 Door automatic p0700 p0705 suggestions please
Car will not move when I attempt to put into drive. Son drove it home, parked it, went to start it next day and pulled the p0700 and p0705 codes.
I cleaned the ground cable up from the transmission housing to the body, but that did not help.
I checked the reverse lights do come on switched into reverse on the shifter.
So I'm not sure if there is a mechanical or electrical issue here but was hoping for some advice.
TIA

5 speed Aisin...I somehow managed to fix it.
I wound up disconnecting both looms from the TCM for a minute, then hooking them back up.
Then I pressed down on the gas pedal for 15 seconds and kept it pressed while I turned key to on position. Did this twice, then started the car.
Let the car run and slowly engaged reverse, neutral and, drive feeling the transmission catch and activiate, allowing the car to drive off forward slowly.
I then parked, stopped the car and turned it off. Turned it on, cleared the codes and appears to be good to go .
Thanks!

Hi there,
Thought we had this sorted a while back with the 2004 Ion 2 - 5 Speed Aisin automatic. Got P0705 code for the range selector. Changed the fluid in November and this code cleared up and the car was driving great. Code just came back again last week. Here are my thoughts but not entirely sure where to tackle next.
1. Change out fluid again and get an exact measurement of fluid level
2. Drop pan and clean it out before putting more fresh fluid back into transmission
3. Remove and replace Gearshift and use new bushing
4. Remove and replace Selector switch on top of the transmission - (only problem is no one has them except for a junkyard it seems in spite of them being in a ton of vehicles particularly Volvo)
5. Solenoid set although I can't imagine after two months of fresh fluid this quits working ?
Am i headed in the right direction ? I did purchase an aftermarket replacement shifter bushing kit specifically tailored to the Ion.

I don't know anything about those cars or transmissions, but I don't see the mention of changing the filter anywhere in your post. If you're going to drop the pan, I'd suggest you change the filter while you're in there. That is IF it has a filter inside the pan. For all I know, it could be an external spin on filter like on the S series TAAT4 transmissions.
I wound up draining the fluid out and replacing it, which at this time after about 5000 miles seems to have solved this particular issue. I think due to the cold weather and poor viscosity of the fluid it wouldn't shift anymore.
