Default Shifter Cable Part# 84523156 replacement

HELP ME Please.

I can’t locate the part for my car as every one is out of stock. I’m being told it’s discontinued. What can I use as a substitute?

I see where that cable is out of stock on Rock Auto for your car. With some research possibly a Malibu cable could be adapted. Have you tried a GM dealer search? The description is identical when you look at the “info” on both cables listed below. Might be worth a try.

All the local GM dealers for at least 50 miles are out of stock and are telling me the part has been discontinued. I tried ordering from gmpartsoverstock.com and the order was cancelled the next morning for the same reason. I even checked eBay and they’re out of stock as well. Unless I can find a repair kit for the busted one I have. I’ll definitely try the Malibu cable.

these are the measurements/details for each. In your opinion do you believe this will work?

Which one is for your car? The top one is 3/4” longer overall. Longer is better. If your car needs the longer one you will need to see if you can loose 3/4” and make the shorter one work. It comes from the floor shifter to the top of the transmission which is on the driver’s side of the car.

Unfortunately mine would be the longer one. How would I get the cable to loosen up enough to fit?

The cables are a fixed length however if it can be routed to reach and loose 3/4” it would work. I cannot tell without looking at the project. It is possible that it could work. Can you take a picture of the cable routing on your car?

If it keeps popping off the ball, there are repair kits available on Amazon and ebay.
