Most of these China knockoffs are junk.

Agreed; you have any ideas/brands/link? Will it cost more than the $3K my kid spent on the Vue?

Lots of good and lots of not-so-good scan tools. Bi-directional add functionality but also more $.. YourTube has a lot of reviews, and lots of used ones for sale on ebay.
I bought an Innova 3130 that provides the flagged obd2 codes but not proprietary codes ~15 yrs ago for $150 (?) and the used and more functional go for $50. Recent whack-a-mole problems with a 2009 VUE Hybrid led me to ask the Indiana vehicle emissions tech support guy about what scan tool he uses => used Snap-On Solus Edge, ~ $600 for those updated to model year 2021 for full function. Bi-directional, real time monitoring and graphing capable. It can do crank position sensor learning. Updates are quite costly but are not needed unless the vehicle is newer than the update version already installed. It cannot reprogram modules.

Note that some makers have "lifetime updates" that are available for as long as that model is a current.

Thanks Rusty! We've decided after replacing several sensors and still having issues/lights/failures/alarms to clone the BCM & replace it. I'll try to get back on this forum when complete to let everyone know how it went, who we used, etc.

You'd likely be better off purchasing a refurb bcm from a GM dealer and having them program it to your VIN to get exactly what you had when the car was new.

The BCM issue may be hardware failure or firmware corruption or both. Cloning the existing one will give you an exact copy of a BCM with corrupt firmware it the programming is the issue.

Food for thought

Holy smokes, derf. That was your 12,000th post. Quite a milestone.
