Body Control Module (BCM)
2007 Saturn Aura XE (3.5L)
I'm having several issues which I believe all indicate a problem with the BCM (Body Control Module):
Intermittent loss of sound from the front speakers
Chimes sometimes work, sometimes don't (including seat belt reminder, turn signal on indicator, audible clicking for the turn signals, headlight on warning, trunk ajar warning, door ajar warning, maybe more)
The backup lights sometimes flash when unlocking the car with the key fob (which I believe is the normal operation), but sometimes they don't
The key fob(s) sometimes fail to operate
The instrument cluster sometimes flashes off and then right back on
1.) Is the lighting for the gauge needles also controlled by the BCM? Only the needles fail to light, the gauges themselves light without any issue.
2.) How can I determine if it is the BCM itself, or if it's somewhere in the wiring? It seems to me, since I'm having problems with so many items connected to the BCM through different wires, that the BCM need to be rebuilt or replaced.
3.) From the research I've done, a used BCM cannot be updated with my VIN or my odometer reading. Is this correct?
4.) Has anyone had any luck with having the BCM rebuilt, replaced (either with a NEW one or a USED one), reprogrammed? Please share your (successful) experiences.
I personally feel that the Aura is one of the best cars produced by Saturn and that it indicated a movement toward higher quality and reliability, Unfortunately, it had a very short run; and soon after, Saturn ceased to exist. This makes it extremely difficult to find any information on them or to find anyone familiar enough with them to be able to offer reliable and accurate advice. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME?

Do you know how to load test circuits? The chances your BCM is bad is near zero. 90% of these are condemned while perfectly fine. Probably closer to 95%.

And a big Thank You for responding.
There's a bunch of videos on load testing at You Tube.
Use load testing a circuit in search box.

I have had the same problem for quite a while. I always assumed it was just a bad solder joint somewhere in the speaker system, and that all the chimes come through the front speakers, so they go out when the speakers go out. No issues with the instrument cluster though. I've been meaning to get the speakers fixed for a while but haven't gotten around to it.

There is a free factory service manual available at charm.li You can find a section that lists all of the systems that the BCM controls.
