My problem was a blade of grass across the wire inside the sensor itself.

So I figured I would post an update. Took the car to gm and they said that the pcv valve failed due to being clogged with air and the pressure caused it to blow out. So they had to replace the valve cover and cleaned out the fuel system. roughly 600 bucks for everything.

Thanks for the update, how does it run now? Hopefully great.

Ummmm...how does a pcv valve get clogged with air? At idle, high vacuum holds it closed. Under Accel, the lower vac allows the pcv to open and vent the crankcase of any built up pressure and sometimes some oil.
If the pcv stuck closed, I can see how that might cause it's own issues, but it would blow out the valve cover gasket long before it would damage the valve cover itself.
To this explanation, I call BS.

Now on to what they did. They must have needed to get to the valve train or cams to make an adjustment so they gave you a BS reason to be concerned about the valve cover. In the very unlikely case it actually cracked, yes they would have had to replace it. Personally, since there virtually no Astra Saturn branded parts left anywhere, I bet they cleaned yours up ( it was not damaged) and sold back to you your own valve cover.

As for cleaning the fuel system, I can see this having benefits regarding the problem, as if your fuel mix is constantly off due to clogged injectors, the ecm and front O2 will be trying to adapt, and if the MAF signal is out of line with the fuel needs.

To be brutally honest, I have never worked on a MAF based vehicle, and this one may have odd Gremlins, but I think they sold you a bridge in downtown Pittsburgh.

Damn, $600 for a valve cover and a PCV valve? Did you at least get one tube of KY Jelly? Sum beech! I'm going to go to the junkyards and start looking for valve covers on these cars. Cha-ching! Gold mine.
