Ok , I,m in the middle of an engine swap from a 97 to 98 SC2. I am using the manual transaxle from the 98 as the 97 was an automatic. I got the new clutch assembly today and new Flywheel will be here soon. I want to change both the transaxle seals while its out. Looking at them causes some concerns as for the best way to remove them. My understanding is one of them has a cap, a ring and then the seal. The other side looks more or less like any other seal. The seal Im concerned about got buggered up somehow during the engine pull. Do I go about this as any other seal replace or is there some thing I should watch out for?
have replaced. what is the best way to remove
I just wanted to mention in case someone with a 98 Saturn manual transaxle decides to change the seals there not both removed the same way. The Left side seal removes as every seal I have ever changed and that is a lot of them. Just use the seal removal pry tool and pull it out. Now the opposite side I went to remove the same way and manage to mangle and tear the seal all up and it would not move. In hindsight I should have clean it before I went to replace, but after a lot of colorful language I took a pin tool and felt around the edge of the seal and felt and obstruction. I sprayed it with some brake cleaner and saw it had a snap ring holding it in place! Now the Chilton manual and the youtube video I saw that was a Saturn Service Video did not show or mention this snap ring. Snap Ring placement Seal before removal did not notice snap ring!
