Default Noise when I start car

My 2001 Saturn SC2 started to make a noise like someone is using a electric saw underneath the car when I start it in the morning, and sometimes it stops right away but sometimes it stays for awhile and sometimes it doesn't do anything, no one seems to know what this is, any suggestions?

Is it a high pitched whine at a constant frequency?

Need more info.

Next time it happens, try to isolate the source (location) of the noise by opening the hood and determining WHAT GENERAL REGION of the car the noise is coming from (passenger side, under the hood, high up on the engine, e.g.).

THis info is crucial for us to be able to help you isolate and address the problem.

If you can post a video w sound to YouTube with the hood up as you slowly walk around the front of the car with the camera at both top of engine level and as low down as you can get it, we'll have a much better chance of being of assistance.

Agree with derf. We need more information. And a sound clip would be awesome.

Would love to help but need more info

The first symptoms of my 94 Sc2 starter going bad were the usual grinding noises common in any old starter. Prob not your issue though.

I never had a starter problem with either of my SC's so don't know if there's a dust shield for them or not. If so, perhaps the bendix is engaging it because there's a loose starter bolt? Don't know, just speculating.
