I just bought a 2001 SC2 (5-speed) with a little under 67,000 miles. It has a couple of minor issues that apparently are common - random high idle, and a fog light switch that decides when it wants to turn on and off without any input from me (even when I try to turn them off, they usually won't turn off! At least they're only on when the headlights are on!)

For the random high idle (as high as 2000 RPM), I've read suggestions to clean and/or replace the IAC and TPS. I will take a look at them shortly. Are there any other recommendations?

I read at least one review of the car that mentioned the fog light switch issue. How difficult are they to replace? Is this problem so common that I shouldn't purchase a replacement switch from a wrecking yard?

 

I've never had a foglight switch go bad.

What 15 Saturns I've had over the years all with fogs but 3 .... and I've never had or heard of the switch going bad.

Nope - no defective fog light switches in my history either. One thing I would do, however, is to make sure I did an oil change ASAP, and at the same time check (and possibly) replace the radiator coolant
