"Customize" Gear Shift
I just bought an aftermarked shift **** for my 1998 Saturn SC2. Lo and behold, it didn't fit. My gear shift was too thick for it, and it can't be forced on either.
What I was thinking was to take out the gear shifter from the shift assembly and then, first hack about an inch off of it, and then grind it to the correct shape so my new shift **** will fit.
Does anybody think this is a bad idea? Are there any problems that I could cause by doing this?
Thanks!

Basically I agree with OceanArcher. If you can install a small block Chevy V8 in one of these things as one member did, you probably can improvise a way to install a shift **** but the one you are suggesting sounds like doing it the hard way.
All it should take is the right part
or
Money
a big hammer
and a welder.
