Im looking at possibly buying a Saturn from a friend. Dont know the exact year/model, but I believe its a 92 SC Saturn. Its a 2 door manual.

She said its been getting worse and the other day she said there was no power, especially going up hill, put the pedal to the floor just to keep from rolling back. Shop said new clutch needed. $150 for the clutch, and like $500 for all the work.

Im not familiar with changing out clutches in cars, I do motorcycles all the time. How much work would be involved in it? I don't have an engine lift or a garage right now being I rent an apartment. Is this something I might be able to do myself?

You kinda need both those things to do this job. Because of the age of the engine, I'd pull it out, seperate the engine and tranny and do an overhaul on both. Replace the clutch, pressure plate and resurface the flywheel for the tranny and replace all the gaskets, seals, timing chain and oil pump on the engine.

So to you does it seem most likely that it is the clutch? Any other common problems? Shes willing to sell it for $300 to just get rid of it because she bought a new 05 Saturn. Other than the clutch its really nice, but I don't have the space to store it if its just going to sit. So im a bit unsure. I its a really nice car.< src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" ="text/"></>< ="text/">_uacct = "UA-939292-47";

I'd pass on it. And I buy cheap Saturns all the time. And I never, ever buy a 1991 or 1992. Unless its body and interior are in good shape. Then I just strip it for its parts.
