Can I add jack-tilt detection to the OEM key fob alarm-98 SC2
Say, does anyone know if I can add a jacked-up tilt sensor to my OEM alarm on my stock 98 SC2?
I live on the westside and the meth heads are stealing Catalytic converters like crazy.
But on my 98 Saturn they'll have to jack it up first to get to the Cat.
I'm assuming my factory key fob alarm doesn't have a tilt sensor.
I'm wondering if it's possible to add one as a trigger for the alarm.
I know they sell tilt sensors separately for alarm systems.
Any info on this would be appreciated.
Thank you
Jim

All s car alarms respond to unauthorized entry and or turning the key in the ignition or shall I say rotating the ignition cylinder to the start position.
The system is a simple starter disable system. Once you engage the alarm by locking it with the fob, it's disables the starter immediately and it remains that way until you unlock it with the fob.
I doubt there is any way for an owner to change the embedded code in the remote keyless entry module RKE,. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to somehow modify The inputs to the RKE to add another input that would go either from 12 volts to 0, 5 volts to 0, 0 volts to 5? I'm not sure what voltage change it operates on as a trigger. It may be a digital based transition from 0 to 1 or 1 to 0 , I don't know. If it is a single line and the signal is communicated on the class 2 serial data network then you are probably Sol. You'd also have to design a censor yourself or patch one in from a kid that came from somewhere else. And it's trigger would need to match the way the RKE in your car is configured.
One thing I would ask. Will you hear such an alarm going off in time to chase the ****ers away before they have the cat?
Food for thought on many levels.
Depending on the material of your cat, you might be able to rig up a magnetic continuity alarm from a security system door sensor. Just thinking off the top of my head

Why not just wrap it in ****** wire with a sign that says warning, electrified fence, do not touch.
If your state has no emissions testing, you could remove your cat and straight pipe it to the resonator. Or drill a good sized hole in it and engrave the text empty on it. With a :-)

ok well I think I have found a way online and YouTube videos.
The Directed Electronics 504K OEM Interface Shock Sensor available on eBay comes with electronics which allow purchase and connection of also a tilt sensor and also glass breakage and proximity sensor if so desired from the same brand available on eBay and amazon.
Then it all just needs to be wired into power and ignition power and ground and one of the oem alarm's trigger sensors such as a door open sensor or hood open sensor.
I'm glad my saturn has an oem alarm but I really find it disappointing most alarms don't have a proximity sensor which can warn away a person BEFORE they do any damage, window breakage, etc...
I'll post in here if I install, perhaps by next year if not sooner.

I like your sense of humor
But why would I hole my cat in my right mind? Exhaust fumes and unburned carbon and polluting our world, the next earth defense virus would definitely want to take me and my earth destroying ways out of this existance before I do any more unnecessary damage to life here and lock me out of future reincarnation potential as an evil (live spelled backwards) abuser.
Those meth heads would probably cut it off anyway with their mind machine thoughts buzzing inside them so much.
I will probably spray heat paint it bright red and rivet attach to its heat shield some very affordable $5 for 2 eBay personalized military ss dog tags with vin number and vehicle.
For my elevated ford van, I also attached steel cable to the frame and barb wire and they cut it anyways but couldn't remove it so now I have to weld it back on.
Do me a favor and do what I have done, write our govt to change the laws to allow:
Salvage yards to sell used cats so us victims can affordably replace our missing cats.
Allow muffler shops to reattach completely cut off and recovered cats.
These current laws are victimizing victims a second time!

Any thief who thinks they're going to bring a floor jack to jack up a 24-year-old car that cost 17K in '98 to get at conceivably a 24-year-old cat used to hell clearly has no ability to rationalize going after an old Saturn as opposed to an F-150, Lincoln navigator, or anything else that doesn't require Jack and can be done in 1/5 the time.
I know you love your Saturn just as I love mine. No one else understands. But your car is low on the list for cat stealing. So many targets that are so much easier. I wouldn't worry about it and spend the money on a tilt sensor .
Mount a small 9-volt battery holder and wire it to power a laser emitting beam since IR won't work near the cat. Get a sensor that matches the laser and wire it up like a garage door beam that stops the door when you break the beam.
Then wire it up such that when them beam is broken, the 9-volt battery powers a speaker that has siren noises. Run one of these on either side of your cat and the pipe in front and behind.
If I went to steal a cat, and I saw that someone went to the trouble to hook up a dual laser beam protection system, I'd move on to the next vehicle. Just like when thieves see a security monitoring sign on your front lawn.
Oh better yet, instead of the sirens have it say detonation initiated and then a spoken countdown of the numbers starting at 7. Don't start at 10.
That's what everyone else does.

Ok, here's what I've done so far,
I've ordered on eBay a directed electronics 504K shock sensor and a 507M tilt sensor, $80 total. A little pricey but the best price I could find.
I wasn't looking forward to the expense or the castle of installing this but it's become a necessity now of days to help assure my Saturn live a long life.
I'll install them per the directions in YouTube video:
NO 9 volt battery to replace, Plus it will be all automatic and if a thief bangs on my car or glass, the alarm will trigger like a modern alarm which can have a significant effect of deterring window breaking etc. before it happens.
I believe thieves will commonly bang on a car first to check for an alarm and move on if one activates.
I believe our OEM alarms didn't come with any shock and tilt sensors lazily because the car makers didn't want to deal with adjusting the sensitivity, repeat visits to the dealership under warranty for complaints of false alarms and back then the technology was more pricey and newly evolving.
As far as if anyone would want my Saturn Cat, well my SC2 was garaged for the first part of it's life and has only about 122k miles on it, it looks newish still.
I live on the Westside of downtown and the methheads are walking around taking to their internal sabotaging reality warping into insanity thoughts, some yelling out-loud arguing in their mind machine at the top of their lungs. This is in the daytime. At night is when the zombies really come out, the thieving ones hooked on BRAINS(I mean METH exciting their BRAINS).
Haven't we seen enough on TV to show us what us zombies will do to get our fix!? Rise of the (mind) machines, it's in our tv and movies, writers are tapping into the reality behind our reality!

I did find this in our forum, a CAT theft that happened:
Do people really steal the Catalytic Converters on Saturns? - SaturnFans.com Forums
Well it's not just the CAT, window break ins of our cars is even more prevalent, discussed on the next-door app so my fix will help with it all.
I'm still gonna spray paint my CAT shield and add the dog tags because I already have the spray paint from doing my van and the tags were only $5 for a bit more piece of my mind so my mind machine doesn't go into obsessive daily fearful thoughts.
CAT thieves are getting violent now when confronted and some now carrying weapons(we-open) holes in our body guns or using their tools as weapons.

I'll update when all is installed.
