Thanks Rube. All the stuff I forgot to mention. And some I did.

I measured resistance across the two pins of the ects removed from the engine, about 60 degrees F ambient, and it read about 3K ohms, correct according to the chart. I cleaned the brass probe area and reinstalled the sensor using teflon sealant. The pigtail and connector are in good condition so I reused it with a dab of dielectric grease.

Received the new parts including the new crankshaft position sensor. Getting good resistance readings on the new sensor I installed it. The car starts immediately, repeatedly. I took it out for a long enough drive to ensure full operating temperature. Once home, I restarted several times with success. Immediate restarts and zero hesitation. Thanks for all the help, advice, etc. Now I just have to bite the bullet and decide whether or not to tackle the transmission valve body. Slow response when shifting into reverse and occasional hard 2-3, 3-4 shifts as if a "shift kit" has been installed. I can only find rebuilt valve bodies on Ebay. I am going to research whether or not I can rebuild the valve body myself.

My wife LOVES this car so I will continue to do whatever I can to keep it running. I did perform a bore scope on the cylinders when I had the plugs out and I still see good cross hatch on the cylinder walls. Happy this current event is resolved as I was intending on rebuilding the SU carbs on my Z.....a project more suited to my wheel house.

Glad you were back up and continuously running. Also keep an eye on the front O2 sensor. A last for about 100K. Do not use a Bosch front 02.

The ects and the front 02 contribute most to adjusting the air fuel mix in these cars. The front 02 can sneak up and start wrecking your gas mileage as it starts to get poisoned.

Thanks for coming back to let us know the fix. Very few actually do.

I'm taking it you own a 240Z?

This is my 240Z. Always wanted one since I was a poor college student. Finally got this one a few years ago. Sold a '67 Camaro SS to finance the purchase. As I mentioned, the Saturn is my wife's car. I do my best to keep it in good condition. Sunroof quit and will remain closed. A couple punctures in the left front fender from a parking lot hit and run. Been through the intake manifold/coolant passage cracking issue. Seems to eat front brake rotors but I believe this is due to operator abuse. We visited the Saturn plant in 2002 and then bought this shortly thereafter. Still gets 30 mpg in town. Burns a bit of oil over time but she loves it. Thanks again for all the help. I'm sure something else will arise but I enjoy learning. Now gotta get to those 50+ year old SU carburetors!

Since this has strayed a bit off topic already... @DatsunZ since you have the right era (and maybe even the right color?) any chance you interested in a free left fender? https://www.saturnforum.com/forum/pr...lic-sc2-14009/

Not asking anything for it, just want it to go to someone who can use it instead of the dump.

Yep, still available. Went out to take a few more photos. I hosed it off, but didn't wash it, so it's still got some dust. Biggest imperfections are what's left of some pinstriping, a few rock chips towards the front, and a few scuffs and scratches that look like they should buff out.

I still have the badge too, that will go with it if you want it.

Can see some leftover pinstriping - may come off with some buffing.

Yellow scuffs look surface only. The little t post at the top is also intact, usually broken off by heavy handed removal.
