Default Out to the shop today! Yeah

It has been a long gestation but we finally have delivery! My rebuilt transmission is here for my crew cab. He has had this tranny for about 18 months, I ran my spare tranny until it died in June. I have a good friend and hunting buddy that builds transmissions for a living. We have hunted together for 16 years, black powder deer and elk. We have good success over the years with both. We did not hunt together this year as my truck was broken. His boys kill most of the animals anyway.
Back to the truck, I built this truck back in 05. It is on a Suburban chassis, uncut. The front four crew cab mounts lined up perfectly on the frame, I only had to Blazer cab mounts at the rear of the cab. I cut up a pickup bed and the back of a Suburban and built a 5.5' bed. There is a 40 gallon tank under and a 60 in the bed. 6.5 na Diesel, 700r4, 241 case with a full floating 14 bolt/ Detroit locker in the back and a 60 in the front. It is a 1984 GMC cab with all the factory options gathered over several years. The first tranny lasted 10 years towing in overdrive. I lost the low planet in the last tranny. They have made improvements in the last 10 years and now this tranny has 5 pinion planets in both gear sets out of a 4l70 which is GMs latest version of this tranny.

It is back together and goes both directions! Waiting for transfer case silicone to cure before filling with oil. I will fill the t-case and test drive Tuesday evening. This is a young mans sport, I hope I don't have to ever take this truck apart again.

May I come and live behind your house in the parts field?

I'll only pop my head up to learn stuff -- which is---well I guess -- any time you're out there....

We have a truck! Road test tonight seems ok after several stop start to speed. It takes a few times through the gears to get all the air out of the mechanical governor. Now to freshen the front end this weekend, of course snow is in the forecast for Sunday. It will run the way it is if needed. Just has sloppy upper pivots and ugly u-joints. Kind of has the death wobble on my he first couple stops. This has been coming on for the last couple winters with the big tires. Two new headlights and new wipers, will stop by for new tags on Thursday. Insurance has been current all along.

Out in my the shop yesterday and today. This time to part out a 90 Subaru Legacy L 4x4. This is a parts car for my Mother in Law's 91 Legacy L wagon. The engine is junk but I kept all the sensors and fuel injection. I really just needed a tranny, but I kept all the axles, rear diff, exhaust, front light package and driveline. I also kept the rear struts, had to use firewood to hold the rear up. LOL. I kept the struts because I have a set of 92 struts in the car now and it is 1" lower than stock in the rear. Now to get after Mom's car maybe next weekend. Then back to my Saturn projects. Yeh!
