Since the weather was much better than forecasted; I decided to replace the ECM ground connector once again. This time I spliced further up the harness where the 5 ground wires merge into 1 wire. There was a mass of hardened duct or electrical tape covering the merge. I spent 20 minutes cutting and breaking that tape apart. I found that somebody (Ford or some mechanic?) crimped that all into one 14AWG wire. Before I did this, I noted that is where the wire was bent and fairly flexible. In any event, I removed the single-pin Deutsch connector and put the 2-pin Deutsch connector back in its place. I spliced 3 of the ground wires to one pin; and the other 2 ground wires to the other pin. Everything seems to be solid. I don't think this was the problem; but I feel better having done that. I was going to test it out; but I decided to get the battery charger and cover the CV back up along with the charger; and let it slowly charge overnight.

I'd like to know what process or tool makes crimps like this without a terminal of sorts?

Looks like something used in an electrical panel.

Seems like a needless hack when it could have been done properly. I don't think Ford would have done something that ugly but then again I don't have the experience with Fords to know that

That's what I asked the grandmarq.net community. I'm leaning towards Ford because there was another crimp like that inside the fuel injector harness. We'll see if this solves some of the problems when I go out to power the system; or at least get my fuel pump running again.

It seems prone to crust and corrosion building up if any moisture whatsoever can get in there. Yes it had tape over it but .... I guess a continuity check should help sort that out although even if it shows us continuous, it may not be able to sync large amounts of current.

Yah, I will need to learn how to do that. I powered up the system yesterday and still had the same problem. I am going to test the ECM relay next time I am out there. If that tests out okay; my next step is sending the A9P ECM out to see if it went bad. Beyond that; I will have to search out somebody who knows the EEC-IV system and have them look through the car.

And it was just confirmed that those were factory crimps by Ford in '80s. Apparently they hammered or pressed a whole bunch of wires together to make those crimps.

Also, I switched out my winter wheel/tire set for the Saleen wheels/Nitto tires on the Grand Marquis last Saturday. With the front swaybar fixed; I can now feel the difference the summer setup makes. There is a highway exit that I could do a max of 70mph with a little roll (and some understeer) when I had the broken front sway bar. Now I feel nothing at 70mph; no roll or even a hint of understeer. Next rainy day, I will see if the highway entrance can be taken at 35mph; which I couldn't do before without drifting.

Result of me trying to shuffle the vehicles around in the backyard; in the rain; with tires that're clearly NOT for off-road use. When I started moving backwards, I was already rubbing Putter Project a little. I figured it was only a little rubbing. I was wrong. Spent an hour on Saturday fixing that bad bet.

I was doing some house-cleaning yesterday and came across my replacement ECM power relay for the Crown Vic; that I thought I had already replaced. When I was done with all of the cleaning, I took some time to look at the Crown Vic ECM power relay. I discovered that I failed to replace that relay; I just cleaned the housing. I ran over to Home Depot and grabbed some contact cleaner and dielectric grease; went back home and did my thing. That relay was pretty cruddy. I'm letting it dry a bit; and maybe tomorrow I will connect the relay and see what I got. Not expecting much; but it does look a lot better than it did.

Looks 100% better, man. I'd go the extra step and try to separated each wire from the plug on the backside and clean each one individually and then put them back in the hole they came out of. Remember, ONE AT A TIME!
