Default Post or get the boot!

A little about me and the '08 Astra. Live just N. of Kansas City, Mo. Just bought a '08 Astra XR that looks pretty well like new inside/outside. White, 5 speed with 66,000 on the clock. Just in time for a $500/$600 timing belt change. Lucky me, right? Anyway, hope this post stops the threats! LOL. Once I put a few miles on the Astra I will give a report as to how it stacks up to a Honda Civic Coupe 5 sd. Should be interesting to say the least. Take care, EK

Welcome to the forum.
Haven't had too many Astra owners here, so be prepared for some "interesting" diagnostic attempts by yours truly and others who dare.

Don't worry, there is a lifelong professional mechanic on the site who must chuckle with amusement at the sometimes misguided troubleshooting efforts.

He usually steps in if I'm wrong and it's gonna cost you $$. He's just that kind of a guy. Kind. And smart.

Anyway, you seem well on your way to 10 posts.
Just need a signature.

You're well on your way to being thoroughly harassed by the regulars, young and old.
It's all in good fun.

The intro "10 days 10 posts+ sig or bye bye" PM is in theory supposed to go out the day you join, but sometimes I'm a "few" days behind. It's also proven to weed out a ****load of "one n done" posters and bots.

That's not the forum we wish to be. There are forums with 13K members that will spit them an answer in 5 min -- less if they actually search before posting.

If you want to diag your Saturn, fix your Saturn, talk about your Saturn, need tech information about some obscure part of your Saturn you never knew existed let alone was important, this is the right forum for you

If you want to get to know us, go spend some time in the Off Topic section, where everything from nerve blocks, herniated disks, bizarre sources of debilitating dizziness, heart attacks, lung transplants, and Plasti-Dip are regularly discussed. Oh and smoked tall lights and Ion Redlines. Or parts of some of them.

And the intro PM is not a threat -- it is reality.

It is very dangerous in life to confuse the two........

That $5 to $600 timing belt change doesn't sound all that bad. You should check out what they have to do to the GMC Acadias! The body had to be lifted off the frame. $2,500 and up depending on where it's done and I'm STILL having a hard time talking my best friend out of buying one. He doesn't have deep pockets either.

The US car makers never learn it seems. They can run model in the groung quicker than you can blink. Why don't they ever learn from other car maker? Take a model and improve it every year( brakes, more HP, tranny improvements, air con and etc after a few years of this, they have a real car with a real reputation that people are willing to buy year after year. Instead, the likes of Vega, Pinto, Cavalier, Shadow until nobody will touch them!! EK
