just thought I would say hi to you all..I purchased a 2002 Saturn SL2 earlier this month (my first) and I have to say I am pleased with it (except for the car payments, yuck). I hope to have it for a long time.. Any suggestions for a new Saturn owner?

First off - Welcome to the Forum.

Next, keep your Saturn properly serviced (have the oil changed at proper intervals), and make sure the tires are properly inflated (helps gas mileage, ride comfort and handling). Make sure the coolant level is always maintained.

Finally, this is a car to get you from one place to another ... not chase cows around the feed lot, or something to jump over sand dunes. Treat it right, and it'll last a long time

OA is right. These are not race cars, but are very dependable and economical cars to operate. If you have the 1.9 engine, it's a good idea to check the oil weekly. They're know to be oil users. Mine has 295,000 miles on it, but the kid I got it from said the engine had been replace around 150,000 according to his mother-in-law that he got it from.

thanks for the advice..On my Nissan it seemed to eat oil as well, so i developed a habit of checking the oil every time i went somewhere..to help me remember i put a label on the gauge cluster, might do it with the Saturn as well..BTW the engine is the 1.9 DOHC..

Well yuh, welcome and my suggestion is to use a minimum of 10W30 Motor oil and again check it regularly untill you find out if it is using oil. Mine is a 94 twin cam motored coupe ownd now since 1996.

Change your oil ... if you find it to be using less then a qt per 3k switch to Mobil-1 10w-30. If it were my car and burnt more then a qt per 3k I'd pour in MObil-1 15w-50

Hello Everyone on SatrunForum.com, I'm a new member here and I just purchased a 1998 Saturn SW2 Wagon and I love it but, I'm on the highway and I'm doing 70mph and the tach reads almost 3,000rpm. The car has a automatic transmission. Is that the correct rpm reading. Thank's
