Hi, my name is Scot. Got a '98 SC2 for $400 because the previous owner had several people look at it and noone could get it running after changing the fuel pump, computer and a couple other minor components.
Bit of voltmetering later, I found that the offshoot in the wiring harness to the fuel pump was corroded; changed that out and it ran like a champ.
Fast forward about 10k miles and a few months of driving 86 miles one way to work every day. Lose power, hear rattling, pull over and haul her home and turn it over and it starts but is weak and rattling. Sounds like a spun bearing to me.
Working at home now so she has been sitting about a year, but it is about time to get that engine fixed up!

Welcome to the Saturn forum, Scot. You can find a lot of help here as long as you follow the rules. When you say you heard rattling, are you sure it was a bearing and not some accessory under the hood like an alternator, or maybe an a/c or idler pulley? If it's been sitting a year, you've got your work cut out for you on the fuel system alone.

Yeah, I am pretty sure it is internal. Gonna roll the whole assembly out from under it and put the engine where I can get a good look at the bottom end.
