Need Engine help
#1
I recently took my 97sl2 for radiator flush. Antifreeze was found in the engine mixed with the oil. The car does not over heat but I somtimes here a sqeeling noise. It also leaks antifreeze but I don't know from where. I did not get this properly checked out yet. I talked to some shops they said that it sounds like I need a head gasket.Does anyone have any advice?

Oil in the coolant means that either the head gasket is cracked, or the HEAD itself is cracked, or you've managed to crack the block.
Let's assume that it's just a gasket. Here's an easy check: Remove the radiator cap and have someone crank the engine while you watch for big bubbles - Don't START the engine - just CRANK it! Be careful, and do this with a COLD engine. You can pull the plug wires to prevent the car from starting while cranking - just lift them off of the coil, but REMEMBER where to put them back on!
If the coolant literally jumps out at you, then exhaust gas is being forced into the coolant system via a cracked head gasket or cracked head. Could also be a block problem but usually it's the head gasket or head.
The squealing noise is likely unrelated to the oil/water problem. I'd suspect a bad waterpump, possibly a bad oil pump, and the drive belt or a pulley for the noise. Belts and pulleys are the typical noise makers.Edited by: LGO-SC2
