First car, it was cheap.
Hey. Just finding a new home to discuss the things related to the 2001 SL1 i picked up for $500 yesterday haha
she needs a lower passenger side balljoint and a couple front tires and its good to go (Y)
AC doesnt work tho, im wondering if anyone can give me a hand in removing it from under the hood?

Dunno about removing, in my neck of the woods, even beaters have no value if the A/C does not work. It could be the A/C being interegal with the ducting and heating system and a serpentine belt drive it might be cheaper to fix it than take it out. It could be for what ever reason that there is a small leak, the shrader valve for example. It looks like a tire valve but different and is a known problem. And then just recharging. There are under and over pressure sensors on the compressor that will keep the clutch from engaging if the pressure is not correct. If the not working statement equates to the clutch does not work thus the pully does not turn for the compressor.
One thing for sure, they are one of the easier cars to work on.

Ball joints are integral to the lower control arm -- recommend using a Saturn replacement -- expensive but they last (in my experience) 12 years. Pricey though.
A/C --- per unc system indeed will not activate A/C clutch if refrig pressure is too low. You can buy a few cans of R134a with a filler line and attach to the low side schrader valve to see if you can get the compressor to kick in.
Most common leaks are the o rings where the lines meet the compressor, the schrader valves, and a pinhole leak at the bottom of the evaporator that you can't see due to it's location. 1st two are worth fixing, third is not
